nono coffee — Kanda, Tokyo 日本語

Coffee in Asakusa — the earliest mornings in Tokyo

Asakusa gets up before the rest of the city. There is coffee from five in the morning, a proper café at 6:30, and by eight you have a Norwegian roaster open. If you are going to Sensō-ji at dawn — and dawn is when it is worth going — you can get coffee first.

Weekday opening times and ratings from public Google Maps listings, checked 12 August 2026. Highlighted rows open before 8:00. Distances are straight-line from the station centre. Weekend hours differ.

What the list tells you

Coffee from 5:00, and a real café from 6:30. McDonald's at ROX opens at 5:00 and the branch by the station at 6:00. Cafe Tomorrow opens at 6:30 and rates 4.3 across 1,425 reviews, which makes it the earliest properly-reviewed café in this list.

FUGLEN opens at 8:00. The Asakusa branch of the Oslo roaster rates 4.1 across 2,835 reviews. It is the most-reviewed coffee shop in the area and the one visitors travel for. Suke6 Diner opens at the same hour.

Kukurihime at 9:00 is the highest-rated of all. 4.6 across 594 reviews — higher than FUGLEN, higher than anything at the station. It is small and it is not on the main tourist run, which is presumably why.

Why the early start matters here

Sensō-ji's grounds are open through the night and the main hall opens at 6:00 for most of the year. The temple at seven in the morning, before the coach parties, is a completely different place to the temple at eleven. Asakusa's café hours make that possible in a way that no other tourist neighbourhood in Tokyo does.

For reference, the stand I run in Kanda also opens at 7:00, but Kanda is a commuter district and this is not a reason to come here. Asakusa has its own early coffee. Use it.

Is FUGLEN Asakusa worth visiting?

Where is the best-rated coffee in Asakusa?

Kukurihime Coffee rates 4.6 across 594 reviews, the highest in this list. It opens at 9:00 and is about 90 m from the station.
